Technical difficulties

Wow! I can't believe that it's been, let's see; May, June, July, (counting fingers)...........February 2010........10 months! since I have put anything up on our blog.

Well, that's because:

1. You haven't been sending anything to me to put up and my silhouette cutting abilities are limited. And...
2. I have been experiencing more than a few intertubz problems over the past several months. Mainly, my formerly reliable satellite service, which I won't name, but they made a movie about its namesake starring Leonardo DiCaprio. No, not Titanic, though, there are similarities. It got so bad that I finally took down the dish and had a competitor's satellite system installed. Unfortunately, that one too is under preforming. Bottom line: I have to spend a lot of time waiting for a single page to download and uploading photos to the blog, or any other destination, can take quite a while. This country is definitely in need of some better broadband providers and capabilities.

The good news is that after visiting the hths1962 email site the other day, which I hadn't done since before Thanksgiving, I was pleasantly surprised by a couple of earlier emails. The first from Mary Carajat, who sent me a very informative Christmas letter about her and Wes' doings - and a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, Mary and Wes.
The second was from, Ted Hack, who sent me some very interesting photos with background which will be the subject of the next post. Ted has restored my interest in the blog and I'll try to persevere with it for at least a bit longer while resisting the temptation to throw the computer at the wall. Ted's post should appear in the next 10 days or so.

Addendum: Had a conversation with Tom Polese this evening and, according to him, Facebook is the new Gary's for the Class of 1962. That's where everyone is having almost real-time conversations while sipping diet cherry cokes. I even joined last year at Mary Carajat's invitation, but just like with the blog, it got lost in the back recesses of my mind with the all consuming Internet problems. I'll have to head over there and see what I've been missing out on.
Can Twitter and tweeting be far behind?

Addendum #2: 2/15. I just cleared out another email account that I hadn't visited in awhile, the one connected to Facebook, and sitting there amid all the clutter and Viagra come-ons was an inquiry by Stephanie Visokay, left prior to Thanksgiving, asking if I hadn't ought to be out hunting up one of my wild turkeys about now.

Well, Steph, I suppose I could sit in my favorite chaise out on the deck and nail one of these bad boys with a slingshot if I wanted, but that would hardly be sporting now, would it?
Besides, there's all that messy plucking and gutting and cleaning and, frankly, I'd rather hunt up an invitation to partake in someone else's turkey preparation abilities. Delegate some things whenever possible, is the credo I try to live by. I can, however, always be counted on to stalk a wild dessert or a few bottles of wine to bring to the table. P.S. I spent turkey day in Ashland, Or.
Again, belatedly, I hope you, and everyone else who drops by this way, had a fantastic Thanksgiving.

Reunion Committee at work

Four members of the Reunion Committee, and their spouses, met earlier this month at the Readington Diner on Route 22 for an informal discussion of plans for an HTHS '62, 50th reunion.
Left to right, above; Ernie and Nancy [Whalen] Goldsmith, Tom and Doris Polese, Ed and Lou [Bace] Hogan, and Ed and Mary Lou Guididas.
Nancy, Tom, Ed, and Lou showing the brochure of, Woodloch , the Pocono resort being considered for the 50th reunion. [Click the link to visit the resort site.]
I'm sure we can prevail upon them for more info about what is going on. They look like they had a good time.

Retreat, Hell!

Frank Reitemeyer also sent along this little gem that lies along the HTHS memory lane. He says he doesn't remember any of it. Just the reason for it. I have a different take.

Here's a Gonzaga Retreat quiz:
A. Who was entrusted with the keys to, The Buttery?
B. Who is not present in this photo?
C. Who brought a squirt gun to this solemn occasion?

And for extra credit:
Can anyone remember what it was we were supposed to write down and put into envelopes for some later reference or reason and what happened to (some of) those mystery missives?

Did the girls have anything comparable to this? If so, any pictures of it?

Frank rightly recalled that the Gonzaga retreat was mandated by Fr. John. No retreat - no Senior prom admission. His prom date was, Janet Roguski (Jodziewicz), and he could not believe his good fortune that she consented to go with him. I went with, Helene (Eeny) Douress, who, BTW, was one of the reasons I wound up in California in 1972.
With who/whom - I still can't figure out which is correct - did you go to the Senior Prom ?

One last thought regarding Fr. John's irascible demeanor towards us Seniors: Remember the all or nothing vote that was held on another one of his ideas - Senior blazers? That Chinese boy in Tianamen Square pales in insignificance to the stand we all took against tyranny that day in room 201. Well, OK, maybe that's a reach.

I'll mention this again. If you'd like to see the larger size of any photo on this blog, just left click on it. Dig those shiny chinos.

Frank and Eileen Reitemeyer

Frank Reitemeyer sent in these photos of him and his wife, Eileen, above, at Wrightsville Beach, NC, and a sampling of his second passion, sailing. Frank says that he and Eileen have a wonderfully simplistic system for division of labor: He helps her 3 days with her passion, gardening, and then he gets to spend 2 days working on his 35' C&C Landfall sloop, Spirit. Sounds fair enough.
Spirit, at Still Pond, Frank's favorite anchorage.
                                         Sailing along in Beaufort Inlet
Home from the sea. Spirit, at the dock. Frank and Eileen enjoy sailing around the Chesapeake Bay, their home base, and have sailed as far north as Long Island Sound, off  Connecticut, and as far south as the Florida Keys. He mentions that that trip was pretty rough and they had to seek shelter in marinas almost all the way until they had better weather in Florida. He also says that if you want to get directions to Spanish named destinations you're better off asking the janitor at the local Chamber of Commerce, because that's what the C of C Information people have to do.

Frank and Eileen have two daughters. Nora, works at NYU as an Event Planner for their German Dept. Kate, and her family, lives in Butler, Pa. and works for Pittsburgh Univ. as a Veterinary Assistant in their Animal Research Dept.

Wes and Mary [Baker] Carrajat

Just received these really great photos of Wes and Mary Carrajat engaged in a few of their favorite pursuits - skiing and swing dancing. I spoke with Mary on the phone Tuesday just as she and Wes were getting ready to go out to do the latter. She also mentioned that she and Wes travel a lot and had a recent trip to Italy and Greece where she took over 1200 photos! Perhaps she'll share some of them with us later.

Mary writes; " Wes and I didn't have any children, so we don't have them or grandkids to brag about. But God has been very good to us and we have a lot of wonderful nieces and nephews and a few great nieces and nephews.....phew! how time flies. I didn't include them in the pictures, just us."
Mary and Wes will celebrate their 43rd wedding anniversary on June 25th.

Anticipation

Every year around this time two events can be counted on: The Daffodils start to bloom and Charlie's Newsletter arrives. Within a few days of posting this we'll be avidly reading about the doings of members of the Class of '62 . I asked Charlie to include the url to this, HTHS1962 blog, in the Newsletter as it has a few pictures down at the bottom I think you might be interested in seeing. So, to those who venture here;

Welcome !

As you will see this blog is still a work in progress. I haven't added to it for some time, but with your help that will change. Think of this as our blog, the Class of 1962. With that in mind feel free to forward anything you'd like to see on it. Pictures are always neat, your own web site or blog links can be attached, info requests, helpful tips, - apart from the stock market, please, - anything at all you'd like to share with the rest of the class.

I am also looking for volunteers who would like to help administer this blogsite. Experience with a blog or website is helpful, but not at all necessary. If I can do it, believe me, you can. The job pays diddly, but the benefits package can be rewarding.  Charlie knows all about such things. In fact, no one would even be seeing this if it wasn't for his indefatigable interest in. and dogged pursuit of, us, the Class of '62, in his always enjoyable Newsletter these many, many years.

Thank you, Charlie!

Some of you may have a special interest that you like to indulge, like photography, globe-hopping,  gardening,  low fat recipes, or expertise at mastering the intricacies of Medicare, Part D. [ What a bummer!] You could have your own ongoing thread. Surely someone from the Reunion Committee will take advantage of this golden opportunity to keep everyone informed - and interested - about the next reunion . Say, don't we have, not one, but, two Priests in our class? Perhaps they might share their expertise and considerable opinion of - just what the hell is going on here ?!?                                                                                                                                                                               Just tossing out some ideas. I'm sure you can come up with a few of your own.  There is one particular request that I have right now: Does anyone have a picture of HTHS that could be incorporated in the header above?  That would really make the top pop.

Any suggestions or comments you have can be made either in the comment box, (just click the word "comments" underneath every post and a window will open up), or, you can send an email to:  www.hths1962@ymail.com. That is the email address for this site and it is also affixed at the top right hand corner. You can send your attached photos there. Be sure to bookmark or favorite this page so you can return from time to time to see what's up. There's even a, subscribe to: Post,(Atom) feature at the bottom of this page that will alert you via email when something new has been added, if you'd like that. This is sooo some 21st Century stuff !

BTW, isn't Doris and Tom's granddaughter, Delia, a real cutie in the post below? You, your kids, grand kids, and pets even would look great here too. You just know they would.
